1. ECRC "Franz-Volhard" Symposium
|Beschreibung:||Franz Volhard largely established the subspecialties of nephrology and cardiology in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. Moreover, he was the first clinician in Germany to recognize the importance of hypertension as a major factor in the development of both heart and kidney disease. The Franz Volhard Symposia were initiated to bring basic science closer to clinicians. The Experimental and Clinical Research Center is the interdisciplinary interface between the Max-Delbrück Center and the Charité Medical Faculty with the expressed mission of "translational" research. This September, the ECRC and MDC will sponsor another Franz-Volhard Symposium. We have already recruited an internationally renowned faculty and will touch on areas related to hypertension, target-organ damage, the role of immune cells as mediators and novel inflammatory mechanisms. We are also interested in development at the level of whole organ systems, as well as vascular development, in this case the lymphatic system, largely neglected by clinicians, but highly relevant to metastasis and surprisingly to hypertension and sodium storage. Another vascular developmental connection involves the relationship between trophoblasts and blood vessels. We touch on novel aspects of the renin-angiotensin system that are unexpected and find out how to survive next generation sequencing. Featured guests and other surprises are sure to please. We invite you to come to Berlin-Buch and join in on enjoying translation without getting lost in it.
